BETH STRICKLAND LMFT
School-Based Therapist
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in working with individuals, couples, children and families, as well as, school based therapy. I received my B.A. in Psychology from Argosy University of California and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University of California as well. My training and experience in counseling and psychotherapy have prepared me to work with a wide range of clients and concerns.
Much of my work as a therapist is in the existential/experiential mode. In this approach, the focus is on current issues in your life, self-understanding, values, and choices. You and I work collaboratively to build understanding and find ways for you to enrich your life experience.
I believe that childhood experiences continue to influence an adult's understanding and response to the world, and where appropriate I will work with you in a psychodynamic mode to understand these influences and modify their impact.
At times I may use the tools of cognitive-behavioral therapy to help you change the way you think about issues in your life; such changes in thinking can often lead to changes in mood and greater emotional well-being.
When working with young children I use strength-based therapeutic approach. I have a wide range of experience in providing individual and group therapy to children and adolescents, and including problems with: depression, anxiety and mood; psychosis; ADHD and Learning Disabilities; defiant/disruptive behaviors; substance use; grief, loss, and trauma; attachment and separation; parent-child conflict; families of divorce; crisis management, and other mental health challenges. My approach when working with children who are unable to articulate what is bothering them is through the utilization of art, play and sand-tray therapy. Children's imaginative use of art, play and sand-tray is a direct expression of the self. It is our window into their world. Using art, play, and sand-tray therapy they will show us everything that they feel, fear, and wish.
I invite you to contact me by phone or email with any questions and/or to set up an appointment.
