Mathew Mayes, LPC-IT SAC-IT
Therapist
Mathew describes himself primarily as a Humanistic and Person-Centered therapist, with theoretical underpinnings that stem from existentialist teaching. Having completed a bachelor’s in psychology and philosophy, he then earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling where a trauma informed, culturally aware, and holistic approach was the emphasis of study. Clinical and practicum requirements were completed in direct impact programs within community areas that were very much in need. Informed by this and a decade of service in crisis and substance treatment hospitals, he has extensive firsthand experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques. The individual, however, remains at the center of his approach, to establish preferences, concerns, and the effectiveness of previous therapeutic strategies, as we walk the path of empowerment together.
