Frequently Asked Questions

Psychiatry is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses. Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners (APNP) are medical professionals who can prescribe medication and provide a full range of mental health treatments, while other mental health professionals, such as psychologists and counselors, often provide therapy and counseling without prescribing medication.

You should consider medication management services if you’re experiencing persistent or severe mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or any condition affecting your emotional or cognitive well-being. It’s important to seek help as early as possible. We believe medication is one component of effective mental health treatment, and can often be helpful in managing symptoms while allowing therapy to help with more lasting change.

No, you can call any one of our clinics and ask to schedule an appointment to meet with an APNP. At that appointment, the provider will assess you and your symptoms and determine if medication is appropriate for you.

All of our appointments for medication management are done virtually, over a video conferencing platform. You will receive the link for the video call shortly before your scheduled appointment. Your first appointment, often called an initial psychiatric evaluation, will involve a detailed discussion of your medical and mental health history, current symptoms, and concerns. The APNP will use this information to make a diagnosis and discuss potential treatment options.

No, we understand that finding a therapist that is a good fit and you connect with can be hard, so we don’t want you to have to give that up just to receive medication services. At times, if you’re not in therapy or other treatment services at all, our APNPs may require that in order to continue prescribing medication, but who you see for therapy is completely up to you.

Yes, conversations with an APNP are confidential, just like with any other medical professional. However, there are certain legal and ethical exceptions, such as if you pose a danger to yourself or others.

You can schedule an appointment by calling our office or using our online appointment request system. We’ll be happy to assist you in getting the help you need.

Requesting a refill from one of our providers can take up to 72 hours for us to process. If you realize you are running low on medication, reach out to our Medical Assistant, and they will work with our providers to get your refill or reschedule your appointment.
